“They received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” (NASB)
The Sower is a reflective prayer inspired by Jesus' Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:3–9, 18–23; Mark 4:1-9, 13-20; Luke 8:4–15), where the condition of the soil determines whether the seed of God's word takes root and grows. The song walks through four kinds of hearts — hardened, shallow, divided, and receptive — not as a judgment of others, but as an honest look inward. Each verse leads into the same simple plea: "Lord, prepare my heart." Rather than presenting spiritual growth as something we can produce on our own, the song frames fruitfulness as a response to God's grace, asking him to cultivate what we cannot cultivate ourselves. It's a song for anyone examining where the word is taking root in their own life, and for anyone longing to be the kind of soil that bears lasting fruit.
