“They received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” (NASB)
The Lampstand is a reflective song about the difference between knowing the language and practices of faith and allowing Christ’s life and light to become visible through everyday love, mercy, humility, integrity, and service. Drawing on Jesus’ teaching about a lamp set on its stand, the song invites us to ask whether we are merely hearing God’s word—or receiving it in a way that bears fruit through us.
It is not a rejection of baptism, Communion, worship, prayer, Scripture, or the Church. Rather, it recognizes that even good and sacred practices can become merely outward habits or private convictions when they are not joined to faith, love, and responsive obedience. The song is a candid prayer of self-examination: Christ, the true Light, calls his people to let his life and light be seen through them, so that others may glorify the Father. He invites us to respond in faith expressed through self-giving love.
